Philip A. Matorin, M.D.
Dr. Matorin specializes in Otolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery and Sleep Medicine. He is certified by the American Board of Otolaryngology with an additional certification in Sleep Medicine. He is licensed in Texas (J0103). Dr. Matorin values hard work and determination, following an old proverb that states that there are no shortcuts to any place worth going.

Dr. Matorin strongly emphasizes patient education and shared decision-making, building the practice around a holistic approach to care. He believes patients should be fully involved in their treatment choices and takes time to ensure they clearly understand all available options.
Board Certifications & Clinical Expertise
Dr. Matorin is board-certified in otolaryngology–head and neck surgery by the American Board of Otolaryngology. He is also among a small group of surgeons in the U.S. board-certified in sleep medicine, reflecting advanced expertise in complex airway and sleep disorders.
Education & Advanced Training
Dr. Matorin earned his undergraduate degree in electrical engineering from Rice University and his medical degree from UTMB before completing residency at Baylor College of Medicine. His training includes general surgery with Dr. DeBakey, otolaryngology with Dr. Bobby Alford, and experience at MD Anderson Cancer Center.
Leadership & Recognition
Dr. Matorin attended Rice University for his undergraduate degree in electrical engineering and completed medical school at UTMB, moving to Baylor College of Medicine for his residency. He trained in general surgery for two years, working in the operating room with the renowned cardiovascular surgeon Dr. DeBakey, and spent the next four years training in otolaryngology under Dr. Bobby Alford. He also trained at MD Anderson Cancer Center. Dr. Matorin has served as Chief of Surgery at West Houston Medical Center and has been elected to multiple leadership positions at the Harris County Medical Society (the largest medical society in the country). He’s been listed in H Texas Magazine’s “Top Doctors” many times.
