If you get enough sleep (we highly recommend it!), you spend an average of eight hours snoozing away per night. That means you could spend approximately one-third of your life in bed. While we all need rest, we sleep in different ways. In this blog post, we’ll look at the most popular sleep positions and what they say about you. Does your sleep position match your personality? Let us know!

Fetal Position

Sleeping in the fetal position is often associated with little children, but it’s a sleep style some of us have decided to take into adulthood. This is the most popular sleeping position of them all and occurs when you curl your knees toward your chest while laying on your side, just like you’re curling up into a little ball. Folks who sleep in the fetal position may have a tough exterior with a warm interior. Once they feel comfortable with you, they open up and reveal their inner kindness.

Freefall

We can’t help but dedicate this sleeping position to a legend who recently passed away: Tom Petty, who was known for his hit song Free Fallin’. This position describes a stomach sleeper who keeps his or her arms near or wrapped around a pillow. As the name implies, they are free spirits who are quite sociable but can also come across as brash sometimes. And I’m free, free fallin’. Yeah I’m free, free fallin’.

Soldier

Ten-hut! You don’t have to be in the military to get shuteye in the soldier sleeping position. People who sleep this way sleep on their backs with their arms straight down. This proper position leads to a proper personality as these folks tend to have structured lives where they have high expectations for those around them.

Log

Take the soldier position, shift them from their back to their side, and you’ve got the log position. Doesn’t this position resemble the log you chop down each year around the holidays? Like freefallers, logs are social butterflies who enjoy the company of others. On the flipside, their trusting nature makes them vulnerable to being taken advantage of by friends lacking the truest of intentions.

Yearner

A yearner is the log position with a twist. Instead of having their hands down by their side, these folks sleep with their arms stretched out in front of them. Their personalities may be characterized by an open nature with a desire to conquer all that life throws their way.

Starfish

This sleeping position may look pretty funny but the name says it all. These people hit the stack on their back with their legs open and their arms stretched out above their heads. Unconventional perhaps, but this signifies a personality characterized by helping out their friends. They are loyal and make their buddies a top priority in their lives.

There are several other popular sleeping positions including the pillow hugger, the stargazer, the soldier-starfish, and the thinker. And that’s not all! There are so many variations depending on the placement and angles of your arms and legs. Do you fit into one of the top sleeping positions or do you have an unusual, unique style that’s all your own?
